Tartarus
Summer, 2021.
After wanting to learn Unreal for a while, I was lucky to be able to join the Unreal Fellowship. This five-week crash course was run online with 100 artists from around the world, split into ten groups of ten, each with a ‘mentor’ from Epic Games. Each day would consist of a few hours of lessons, while we would be occasionally meeting with our teams to discuss progress on our personal projects, or ‘shorts’, which were a required assignment.
At the outset of the Unreal Fellowship we were given a prompt, ‘conflict’, and given a week to come up with an idea, storyboards and then an animatic for a one to three minute short film. This was a little stressful but also pretty exciting! Ultimately, I came up with something more ambitious than time would allow and what I completed does not yet reveal the story but… there is one. :) What really mattered to me was that at the outset of the Fellowship I had never used Unreal, and just a few weeks later I felt comfortable enough to begin having fun with it.
